About us in 2020

Walking Football Brisbane - 2017 - 2020

We started walking football in September, 2017. With very little resources, we purchased all the essentials, seeked out suitable venues, registered the business, designed the website and created a facebook page. Now, as at January 2020, we have helped open 5 venues in Brisbane, assisted to start the Sunshine Coast in Coolum and will have assisted opening one at Peninsula Power. Our aims are to assist former players and newcomers with as much information as possible as they begin a new sport, after being inactive for many years.

On Sunday April 28 we held our second Walking Football Festival Day at the world class QUT Stadium at Herston. We had 12 teams participating which was double that of our first ever Festival Day last October 2018. We anticipate another big year in 2020 with so many events currently set up to make 2020 a memorable year.

What is Walking Football?

Walking Football is exactly as the name suggests - a Low Impact, no contact - slower version of the world game. Playing 5 or 6 a-side games for 20 minute quarters is the usual format. This is ideal for people over 50 years of age from all walks of life. Althought the sport is walking, it will increase the level of fitness of the player in a controlled and friendly atmosphere.

Walking Football provides a fantastic opportunity for anyone who loves football to participate at an easier pace so... Bring a friend, bring a team, BRING IT ON!

WE ARE BACK - A STROLL IN THE PARK

On Saturday 6 June 2020, WFB Inc hosted two COVID-19-modified sessions of social walking football on the Perry Park synthetic sports field at Bowen Hills. After over 10 weeks without kicking a ball for most, the day turned out to be a big success. Well done to all for making both sessions a big success.

REFEREES & RULES

We have a few guys very interested to oversee the rules and refereeing which is great to see. Stephen Thompson, Ken Haiking and Stephen Carson plus many more enthuisiasts will be looking to see how we can improve in our training up & delivery of refereeing. With so much happening in 2020 we will need to be up to date with ALL RULES to make many of our tournaments a big success.

Benefits

Playing Walking Football provides an environment to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere of fair play and great comradery with existing and new friends. This promotes a healthy outlook on life, fitness, friendship, and a chance to participate in a team sport suitable for men and women.

Imagination.... What we have achieved in 2018 - 2019 is only a small
percentage of what is possible moving forward.

Whether you wish to submit a team, or as an individual, you or your team are all welcome to be involved. Our first ever Qut Walking Football Festival Day back in October last year was a huge success.
